I started this by letting people know that Bob had left, so people wouldn't think he died or has been hurt. The problem with the performance topics, is that a few would go out of thier way to highjack the thread and not answering the question. It was more important for them espouse thier views on poeple than answering the question. If someone ask if the perfomance parts work or not, then they had all the rights in the world to bash products. Most of the time the questions were, "whats the best intake for my truck", or "whats the best catback". They didn't ask if it worked or not or is it going to give them a 100 hp, they just want to know which one we think is best. Then it would start, there junk, don't waste your money, that sorta crap. As been stated, people mod thier trucks just because they like to do it. They like the rumble of a catback or the swoosh of an intake. The performance haters wouldn't leave anyone alone who wanted to mod thier truck. Opinions are one thing, but to highjack threads and start fights to the piont the thread gets locked wasn't and isn't cool. I've ask people, if you don't like perfomance, to stay off the threads and show respect for the ones who do, but they just wouldn't do it. It was thier job to save the world from the performance monster or something. A lot of times these questions were from new members and I'm sure the fights helped scare them away. If someone would ask does a product really work, then by all means, bash away on the product in question if thats your experience or opinion. The product bashing got way out of hand in the past. FTE is a great forum and we have great moderators here on the ranger forum and if you can find a better one, then more power to you. I've been ganged up on the performance topics, but it doesn't make me want to leave. It's my truck and my money and I will spend it how I see fit and others should have that right as well.
i like the "if you dont have anything possitive to say, dont say it at all". now i do know that sometimes people have had bad experiences with products, by all means, let us know. But when your thread starts with "i think this product is utter trash", this tends to get some peoples mouths rolling
“ok, this post is offically closed. deal with this in private and please dont address it on the boards. as for tornados, please quit advertising them until they are sold by a sponsor. thank you
Matt”
Dave...you quite obviously haven't read the FTE guidelines. Some of the mods have the link in their signatures. Do check it out. Most of the things you pointed out are clearly stated in the guidelines.
Futhermore, looking at that post you linked to, you were promoting things that weren't even proven, along with things the other members of this forum have absolutely totally disproven with facts, such as the Tornado. Evidence such as dyno sheets and MPG readouts over a long time have disproven the products you support, so why would the members of this forum, who have previously discussed and come to a consensus on these modifications, not stand up and say "hey...that doesn't work...don't waste your money." They're trying to save the members of this forum money who aren't sure about modifications, not happily promote things that will not give them a "bang for the buck."

Just because some people think the T*****O is good but it is not a sponsor here, you can't talk about it. WHY??? I think if false info. was posted point it out and let the people here make up their own minds. As it has been stated, "That is what these forums are for". I think MOST people can figure out what is good and what is bad. Or you just saying some people are just that dumb and other people have to make up their minds for them. The info. was posted now let the people decide.
You can talk about the Tornado all you want, just be prepared to hear the lonnnnnggggg list of people who will shoot it down. Not because it's not a site sponsor, but because they have dealt with them before and many users of this forum have bought it to prove a point, the point being they do not work. The Tornado is not the focus of this discussion however.
You can talk about products not made by the sponsors all you want. I suggest parts for vehicles all the times which are not made or offered by the sponsors. Sponsors offer a wide variety of parts for our trucks, and by supporting them, you are in effect supporting FTE. However, if I know a company makes a better part or the same for a cheaper price than a sponsor, of course I will plug the other company, as I believe anyone on this forum would.
You are free to give your opinions about the sponsors and their products, along with products not offered by them. Check out the thread about the new grille in the Explorer forum, it was pretty much a universal answer of "disgusting" to a product that was offered by one of the sponsors. That thread was not locked, nor was anyone faulted for commenting and saying that they flat out thought the grille was bad.
Your claims that you cannot talk about non-sponsored items is flat out incorrect.
I'm new here, but it seems like a great place. It's answered my questions. I've done some digging and asked something that'a probably already been asked a thousand times. I am a member of a tractor forum as well. Yes, it does seem like the same things get asked over and over again. In my opinion there's only so many things that can be done to a specific type of machine. The same problems will occur again and again. It's the openness and willingness of the current members to share info that make a forum work. This one seems friendly. I've been to some that are way rude. There is another that seems dead. No one posts or replies. We do run the risk of redundancy, but it keeps things alive.
I've never had a problem with any of the people on this forum, even though I have been involved in strong disagreements at times. The reality is that different people will look at the same information and draw differing conclusions. The value of the board is that those differing conclusions can be discussed.
The continual frustration I have with this site is the lack of performance of the servers. They have no problem painting up the ads post haste, but sometimes the content literally never comes up. Today I had to come back to the Ranger forum 3 times before it would actually put up the content. Why can't they make it so it actually works like its supposed to on a regular basis? Many times I leave frustrated without having been able to actually see the forums - I can't be the only one...
BTW, GrayRanger4x4, you have the best signature I've seen in a long while.
This is definetly the best forum I have been on as of yet...I've been on several other ones, including a very very nasty one about flying. So many disagreements in there it was unreal, and that was a pay to post forum.
Can't beat the atmosphere here, some friendly talking, comparisons, and product discussions, but mainly a lot of problem solving that really helps people out and hopefully saves them money. It did for me, and that's why I choose to pay the $15 a year and enjoy Supporter membership and the benefits of it.

Did you read why the thread was closed?

A nice way of saying we don't sell them, so don't post about them.
This is definitely the best forum I have been on as of yet...I've been on several other ones, including a very very nasty one about flying. So many disagreements in there it was unreal, and that was a pay to post forum.

First of all, I must agree with rubidist, I've liked your signature for a long time, sadly very very true.
Back on topic however:
You have no right to sit here and idly bash what you do not take part in. You are just as any other member of this forum who isn't part of the staff, including me. You are here because at some point you joined by your own free will. You stay by your own free will. If you have a problem with the rules and regulations, than that's tough luck for you. Take it to the suggestion forum down the main board and report it there to the admins, they will take everything seriously and study it.
Every single rule and regulation is there for a reason. Every action by a moderator or administrator is done for a reason. It is their forum, not any of ours. We agree, by being members, to be bound by their rules. It is a previledge, not a right, to be a member of FTE.
It is a previledge, not a right, to be a member of FTE.
Actually, it is FTE that has the previladge of having the people here as members. If they can't attract and keep members, the sponsors will leave and FTE would be no more.
