Ford has occationally "forgotten" to add friction modifier in the LS from the factory. I just traded my '03 Explorer LTD in that had the same issue. Just before I traded I finally got the dealer to drain and refill the rear end and add the friction modifier and what do you know, the chatter went away. Dealer says it's not the first time they have seen this happen, may even be a TSB on the Explorers for this.
