Hey guys..
Was testing out my 4x4 the other week.. Just getting to know the truck. I was on an icy patch and accelerated (not hard, but not soft either). My back end really came over to my left. I tried it a few times and the same thing happened. The groud was even, so i wasn't quite sure why this was happening. I thought that limited slip is supposed to keep you straigther then an open diff.
I'm new to this stuff, so my facts may be a bit off.
Thanks guys.
With an open dif it will go straighter. I have a limited slip and when both tires start spinning it's very hard to keep her straight!
My truck will go sideways on dry pavement at a 30 MPH roll,,lol
an open diff usually has one non-powered tire while the other tire is under power and spinning. this non-powered tire maintains your trucks position.
the posi allows both tires to spin. any inertia you have will make the rear of the truck move from side to side since there is no anchor point like a open diff has

True. If you are on a slope, the rear will slide down the hill and if you are turning, you will learn what race car drivers refer to as "loose".
Open diff has one other advantage..... far less expensive to purchase, maintain and repair. I see an AWFUL lot of them (limited slip) being repaired in our shop.
It is what is says "Limited-slip". It means one wheel has to start to spin in order for the other one to start working. Positrac is a GM term. If your clutch packs are too "tight" in the rear end, you will feel it going around a corner.

When you say "feel it going around a corner" what exactly do you mean? One of those 'you'll know it when it happens' dealio?
Like I said, I have a 04 Lariat 3.73.. Does that automatically come with Limited slip?
I went underneath my truck a minute ago, and tried to find the tag with the "L" I heard about.. I couldn't find it.
Apparently I am not allowed to post pics, so I will try to add it to my Gallery.
Thanks guys for the help so far

No its an option check on your sticker on the door jamb where it says axle code if its H9 or H6 or something a lettter an number always limited slip if it just anumber like 19 for example or any number it says on your axle code its an open diff non limited slip this applies to these trucks unless someone has changed that out
the clutch paks are too loose for you to feel the chattering. basically it will feel like a "jumping" sensation and you might hear the tires chirping
the LS is only really usefull for when offroad or during towing. ever tried to tow a heavy trailer in the dirt and not be able to move because of one tire fire?
it does make it a blast to drive when wet though. slip and slides are my favorite time
