Limited Slips

I have an 04 F150 4x4 with a 5.4 & 373 limited slip gears. Does this mean that both the front and rear are limited slips?

You cannot even get limited slip in the front anymore.

My 06 has 3:73's and a limited slip. In unequal rear traction situations the tires slip bad. Limited slip should be renamed to limited traction.

Do you understand how a limited slip works?

afc1261, Would you explain what you meant when you said "In unequal rear traction situations the tires slip bad"? I am concerned that maybe you paid for it but did not get L.S. or there might be a problem with it not functioning properly.

Talking

What I'm talking about is.....If one rear tire is in grass and the other rear tire is on the highway (ie...unequal traction) and I push solidly or gently on the gas pedal the tire in the grass spins and the tire on the pavement doesn't spin. That's wether I stomp on the gas or gently press on the gas......the extra "s" on tires in the previous post was a mistype but the thought was the same. In my truck they should call limited slip.....limited traction because it's not a very good limited slip system. My truck has 8,000 miles and I know it was designed to work better than it does. Maybe a Detroit Locker is what I need...

05 FX4 4x4 ls rear end. In the scenerio you mentioned my truck will slip for 1/2 second and then both tires grab. if the tire on grass is slipping at that point the tire on pavement is also spinning. Mine works great on sand and in mud also. I suggest you have yours checked. This is my third truck with ls and it gets better each year model. I had a 1996, 2002 and now a 2005.

It sounds like you do not have a limited slip rear axle. The way you explained how your traction reacted is exactly how an open rear axle works. Does your window sticker indicate "Limited Slip Rear Axle" as an option?

Yes you are correct. It does sound like I dont have a limited slip. I paid for one. It's on the sticker. Yet it performs poorly.....

limited slips are not lockers and they will slip they have a break away point.

try reading up on how the LS works for a better understanding.

Factory limited slips suck as a rule, other than the torson in the ranger level2, there better than nothing, but not much better. A good choice to replace a factory lsd that I've found, is the detroit tru-trac, it's gear driven, and the closest thing to a locker without being one. Even if you have one wheel in the air, you can fool it by aplling a little brake along with the throttle, this will cause both rear tires to spin together like a locker.

I agree with Wendell B. I have the Tru-Tracs in my '68 Bronco, front and rear. When its engaged it feels like a locker.
