I recently rebuilt my 351W in my 92 F250. I put comp cams 35-255-5 cam in it. What have other poeple experienced for gas mileage with this cam? Did you have a drop? I know that my motor will suck gas until it loosens up. I was just curious. Mine just seems to really be sucking gas right now.
I am looking to put the same cam in my 87 351W. Other than the crappy mileage (which I'm expecting) how do you like the cam? How does the truck run compared to the stock cam?
I really like the cam. It has a very good power band; down low, right where you want it. I pulled a K5 blazer 90 miles at 60-65 mph with no problems. I think my mileage will get better once the engine loosens up. I think I was just panicking. After all, it has less then 1,000 miles on it.
the oil is pretty wierd looking, epecially after the first 20 minutes. I have been running GM EOS in there still, too. I figure that can't hurt anything. A little extra protection should be good for it. I also run Rotella 10W30 since that has a better add pack in it.
I figured I would update the thread that I started. I took a trip this weekend with the truck. With a mix of city and highway driving, I got 13 mpg. I think that is pretty good for a HD F250 with new engine. I figure I should be able to see a 1-2 mpg increase after it is broken in.
I have an E4OD with 3.73 gears, 2 wheel drive, extended cab, long box, HD F250. I drive like a Grandpa, even though I'm 24. What do you get for MPG?
I get 16-17 HWY cruising at 70-75mph. Mixed driving is 12-14mpg. You are in the ballpark, I think it'll improve some more as the engine continues to loosen up.
I had my milage go up after I installed that cam. I also went to al heads and roller rockers. I went from 11mpg towing my boat thru the mountains to 12.
