1989 351W for a 1966 F100

Found a 1989 F250 w/a 351W backed by a zf manual. Going to put in my 66, along with the efi. I have been told a comp cam 35-255-5 cam is the way to go. going to install cam and headers, is there anything else that will help this motor?

I'm doing the build also, Long Tube headers will give you better breathing. Now I'm buying Edelbrock set, Performer RPM II EFI Intake Manifolds #7185,,,,update just bought them from AutoAnything in CA. $641.24 free shipping to Alaska , that is a deal,, Made In America By Americans.
got 5%off ask i priced them in florida @Rebel Performance price $645 so they beat them.

A set of GT40 heads help air flow cast iron. If you can afford any American Made Aluminum heads you can run a point higher compression.

A set of American Made, Scorpion Roller Rockers 1.725 looks great and is better than the stock 1.6 friction rockers, plus you get a little more lift on the exhaust side its important. Got those at RPM Machine.com. correction pistons came from RPM,, they did help select the Scorpions but I got them from Summit.

whats your budget?
nice tranny

you can follow my motor build here,,,
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...1-build-4.html

I am waiting on my pistons for a mock build, pistons installed on the rods on the crank rotating to determine piston to block height then I can get my block decked square to crank, flatness, and zero the piston height to the deck. basically I'm cutting around .030 off the top of my block.
Ford added the extra height to lower the compression. Buying flattops does not help the quench is still messed up.
I saved a lot of information I found handy in my thread.
Paying close attention to your cam selection is very important to the Speed Density Computer,, MFI not so much.

If you like to talk to Race Tec about their pistons 714 903 4362,,, Tim Or Randy.
I bought them though RPM Machine, Shannon had them dropped shipped to me.

What is DD?

I'm building mine to pull a 18' car trailer, better performance and hopefully fuel economy.

Yea I liked talking with Shannon at RPM Machine ,very helpful and called me a few times
to get my needs clear and taken care of , good customer service.

As long as you're not planning to wind past 4,000 rpm much the stock heads and intake are serviceable. Most of the increase from better intake and heads will come above 3,000 rpm. What rear gears in the '66?

A full balance job on the rotating assembly won't add power but is money well spent. ARP rod and main cap bolts are cheap insurance. And for the love of God pay the extra for a one piece oil pan gasket.

I'd have the ZF looked over before you install it. They're pretty beefy but better safe than sorry. Don't skimp on the clutch kit. I used a cheapo Zoom kit that the dude threw in with the ZF and it's a little noisy.

It has 3.25's now. It's getting 3.50's soon. What clutch kits are reliable, in your opinion?
