Cool 351w differences in heads/years

I have an 86 EB bronco with the 351w that I found out either needs the heads redone or another set of heads put on. I have a 1970 model 351w in the shed. I am pretty sure that I could just bolt them on (correct me if I'm wrong please), but I was wondering what the differences are, if any. I know it is a different firing order motor, but that shouldn't make any difference. Also, does anyone have any known good heads for sale? I was gonna put the 70 model 351 in my 85 Bronco, so I really don't want to rob a bunch of parts off of it. Thanks fellas.

Find out what heads are on your motor. Was it a 351 HO? If so it will probably have E5 heads which are very close to E7s. Almost every 5.0 and 5.8 since 1987 used the E7 casting, so they are plentiful and cheap. The '70 heads will bolt on but there may be water passage alignment issues.

Thank you. I don't think it is an H.O. motor, did they come in Bronco's? A friend reccomended a local shop that would do the heads for about $150, plus parts like if it needed a valve or two. Where exactly is the number on the head at? If I grab those maybe numberdummy could help me out. What are my options? 302 heads? Would that even work, or help? Thanks for the prompt response. I hate sitting and doing nothing about this problem. I need to get it running and get it legal.

Casting numbers are on the lower surface of the head near one of the inner intake ports. If the motor has a factory 4bbl it may be a HO. The only real way to know is to measure the cam, the plane jane 351 cam had 0.418" lift, the HO got 0.450" lift.
From '87 on the 302 and 351 heads were identical except for the bolt holes sizes. Either will work fine..
