I have a 94 XLT With a 302ci, a Flow Master exaust a hyperchip, headers, and a K&n filter. I do alot of towing locally(no more than 5 hour drive), I also have a 14' enclosed trailer that I use to haul my quads. On slight hills I have to shift out of overdrive to pull the hill due to my 31" tires (even with out my trailer). Will I benifit from gearing down for more pulling power? Or is this a waste of money? Also I'm planind a trip to Vegas this summer, will the 302 be ok on that long of a trip pulling a trailer?
Thanks

You're going to have to shift out of OD no matter what you do to it. OD is simply too high of a gear ratio to tow in. If you check your owners manual I bet it will tell you not to tow in OD.
Organ Donor, just a thought, make sure you have the right speedometer constant programmed in with your 31's. It will help with your tranny shift points.
I have a trans cooler, that was a must! Even with out a trailer it still wants to shift out of over drive. What rmp is OK to haul for long periods of time in 3rd gear? 3000? 3500? It just worries me because it really sounds like it's winding out. 3500 rpm is going about 70mph.
Thanks
