Is it worth the $$$ to replace the spark plugs and fuel filter with 127 000 kms? The truck is running fine but was wondering if the replacement of these parts is necessary? Will it improve mpg?
2001 Ford F150 Supercab, 4.6 L 8 cylinder 4x2.
Thanks
if you havent had a plug fail yet, you are due. i would have them done this spring. the filter should ahve been done a long time ago. dont know about milage, but you might notice an improbement in performance. its probalby 80% plugged at 100,000 miles.
I don't want to sound like a idiot but where is the fuel filter and how do you get it off? What is a good filter to get?
Steve
it should be mounted under the truck on the inside of the left frame rail (crawl under the truck on the drivers side and you can't miss it). detach the safety clips from the lines (both inlet and outlet lines) and then use the special tool to disconnect the filter from the lines. you WILL spill some fuel, so don't sweat it (BTW, i never release the fuel pressure like you are supposed to)....loosen the filter mouting clamp, take it off and replace with a Wix filter from Napa (or where ever, www.fleetfilter.com ) or one from the dealer, or if you have to, a Purolator....
