thanks for all the info on my last post! New Question! can i remove the power steering pump without hurting the motor? i did this to my cj-7 and i loved it. im not a big fan of power steering in short wheel base trucks. i have the 300ci I6 in my 86 fullsize and just wanna know if it'll hurt the motor if i remove the power steering pump.
You can remove the pump, but you will not be able to steer the truck very well. You would have to convert the whole system over to a manual steering system. I don't think Ford offered manual steering in trucks by the time your Bronco was made. You would have to try and adapt an older system, or one from another vehicle. You basically need to remove the power steering pump, hoses, and gearbox, and replace the gearbox with a manual gearbox. I don't know about the shaft, pitman arm, or any other parts of the steering system, they may need changing or fabrication as well to make them work with the manual gearbox.
