cat back exhaust install

i've heard alot of people saying that when they go to disconnect the factory mount on the exhaust pipe coming from the cat and going to the muffler that it will often not come loose and they have to cut it loose. i'm getting ready to install a flowmaster system on my 05 5.4 and was wondering where they actually cut the pipe. i just looked at it before i come in the house and i couldnt figure out how that would help any. would someone please explain this to me.thank you

Mine had a sleeve connector that went between the factory muffler and the pipe forward of the muffler. I had two slots that lined up with alignment tabs on the two pipes that went into it. This would not come loose no matter how hard the muffler shop beat on it after removing the two clamps. I think the factory clamps had crimped the sleeve over the pipe. They cut it off just forward of the sleeve. to install my flowmaster.

I installed a Gibson catback on my 04 SD with no problem other than wrestling the tail pipe out over the axle.
