I am working on a 95 powerstroke. It's hard starting and runs rough. I put my otc scanner on it and did a cylinder contribution test. came back with cylinders 1,3,5,7 not contributing. I checked the harness pluse on a scope and I am getting a pulse to all four cylinders. I plan on checking the wiring in the valve cover next. Am I on the right track or am I missing something
Thanks
Robert
yes you are on the right track. you can check the harness with an ohm meter. That will test the harness and the injector solenoid.
the 5 pins of each connector are set up like this
1 2 3 4 5
- - - - -
1 and 5 are glow plugs, 2 and 4 are the low side to individual injectors and 3 is the high side to both injectors
place your ohm meter between 2 and 3 then 3 and 4. if either test more than 3 ohms you have an issue there. if they test good then thats not you issue. usually when a hole bank goes bad the IDM is shot.
Thanks Tim.
I checked the omhs, they checked out in the 2.5 to 3.2 ohms. I did the injector buzz and came back with all sorts of codes. but I could hear the injectors buzzing. most of the fault codes were related to the right bank but had a couple of issues on the left side. Kind of leaning toward a bad IDM but at a thousand buck I need to be sure. I will check the wiring between the IDM and the injectors tommorow. any advise. thanks
Robert
