Can Ignition COntrol Modules be rebuilt?
I took my 1996 E350 7.3 powerstorke into the shop because the engine was running roughly. The mechanic says #2 and #8 fuel injectors aren't firing and says the truck needs a new ignition control module. Ford is quoting an outrageous price.
The current module isn't that old but is no longer warrentied. Can these be rebuilt? or what is the cheapest alternative? Links would be appreciated.
If I go to the wrecker what years / models will be a direct swap?
Will I have trouble with a used one or do they generally not fail?

its probably not the injector driver module. if it is yes used ones are fine as well as rebuilt ones on ebay. I would bet that you have a wiring issue under the valve cover. could also be the injector its self.
for the junk yard modules any 94.5 to 03 IDM will work. the 99-03 are different but they are an upgrade to ours.

Just got off the phone with the mechanic. He now says it's probably the injectors. . . It frosts me when they say, "definitely this... oh I mean definitely that. . . whoops I mean positively absolutely "could be" the whatchma call it.
