I have a 2002 Escape with a factory 6 Disk in-dash CD player. Upon trying to eject a CD, the CD does not eject and I see "CD ERROR" on the display. I can't play any CD's, put any more in, or eject any CDs.
This has happened to me once before and I just gave it a couple days, and it eventually ejected the CD. However this time, that method doesn't appear to be working.
Does anybody know how to fix this??? Please help!!
That usually happens when U have a home made cd with a label on it. Try and find some thin enough to slide in there either above or below the cd ur trying to eject while attemting to eject the cd. Or push the cd back in with another cd while trying to reload the stuck cd. You will need something as thick as 2 or 3 pieces of paper to slide under the cd while trying to eject it.
I know that on computer CD drives there is a small hole made just for a paper clip to push some inner lever to eject the tray. The hole was usually located right on the face of the drivge I am not sure if there is that type of option for an indash 6 CD changer. Just a thought!!
I HAVE AN 02 ESCAPE ALSO THAT WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE 6 DISC SYSTEM. AFTER REPORTING IT TO FORD, THEY REPLACED IT SAYING THAT IT HAS BEEN A FAMILIAR PROBLEM WITH THAT SYSTEM. SO I WOULD START THERE. I HAD 00 F-150 XLT AND IT HAD A SINGLE DISC SYSTEM THAT ALSO HAD TO BE REPLACED AND I DON'T EVEN USE HOME MADE CD'S. GOOD LUCK THOUGH, FORD USUALLY DOESN'T LIKE TO REPLACE THINGS WITHOUT BLAMING THE OWNERS FIRST.
My 2005 XLS has the single CD player. The previous owner left a CD in the player. My son ejected it and put one of his in (commercial CD) and that one will not eject. Message on display " eject err" The cd will play just will not eject. Is the player defective?

It's likely defective. Ford's CD players and changers don't have a great track record... I've had three changers replaced under warranty. If yours is an '05, I would hope that Ford would replace yours as well. As mentioned in this thread,
Ford doesn't stock replacement heads. They'll probably remove yours and send it to their vendor who will, in turn, send a refurbed head unit. Could be a couple weeks turnaround.
