What I don't understand is how come yall gotta be so fu*king evil to me all the time
Hey, where the hell do you get all the different smileys? I only see a choice of ten or so..? I swear, even the site hatest me
Hahahaha - beacuse you weren't here to defend yourself and I was bored, plus being a fellow NC'er, I feel obligated - kind of like picking on your brother all of the time.
For the smiley's, scroll all the way to the bottom and it'll say "Showing 50 smiles of 72 total. --Show all Smiles--"... well, if you click there, you'l all 72 of them in a pop window.
Come on down and see me, dinner's on me (Monroe, or Marshville, NC).
35mi east of Charlotte, right on Hwy74
George
Actually, I'm not too far from you (less than 100 miles) - on the otherside of the 'big city' (CLT) in Stanley. Don't know if we can make out that way anytime soon, but we'll have to meet up one day. I normally try to avoid hwy 74 like the plague.
I have some family roots set in Marshville and Rockingham/Hamlet - My dad's side is scattered all around those parts.
Just reading through this, and i wanted to mention i was in serbia visiting family in sept/oct and gas was right around $8 a gallon also. I was driving a lil opel astra around. Like the other guy said, almost all teh cars out there are the size of a geo lol. I did see an excursion in belgrade the capital city at the airport though.
Oh and also make sure your torque converter is locking! Just noticed my truck was acting al il funny at highway speeds and tested for lockup and sure enough its not locking! Its going into the dealer tomorrow morning hopefully. Gave em a loist of other lil stuff for them to look at too. I'm getting my $'s worth for that $2640 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty!
I think they broke it off in me lol, 3/36 bumper to bumper through ford. I really wanted the warranty as it was a rental vehicle then owned locally here in chicago for just under 2 years before i got it. Dont really know what all it has been through but it looks pretty clean. Im gonna milk the warranty for all its worth, oasis report be damned, ill explain what was up to a potential buyer if they look it up and ask.
I have an '00 Ex with the V10 and a custom ordered (I'm not the original owner) Dana 60 with 4.11 gears. I know its an oddball, I have blank axle codes on my door tag. My mileage is about 13 city and 15-16 highway depending on wind.
Now, please don't jump down my throat, I'm just thinking out loud here.
On the idea of increased mileage, what about adding on an external overdrive box like RVs have. Since you don't need the torque at highway speeds and (without calculating it), I would assume that the EX doesn't need more than 80HP to keep it rolling at highway speeds, why not spin that engine down to about 1200RPM when cruising.
I know it won't work for towing or 4WD, but for 2WD, it might actually work.
If I did install one on a 4WD would the front hubs (unlocked of course) burn up? If the axles are turning at a different rate than the wheels, how much extra friction is produced? I know they are designed to only be off by a few percent because of turns, slipping, etc. but would they survive a constant rotational difference?
I can't see it making a difference on a 4x4 vs. a 4x2, unless you tried to install it between the transfer case and the rear axle. Even then, you would have no problem so long as you kept the box OFF when you actually in 4x4. Remember that you don't have power going to the front wheels all the time - that's what that little switch on the dashboard is for.
To respond to your question, though, I can't see that being a particularly pleasant driving experience. My truck has a V10 with the 4.30s and so it revs 2500 @ 70 mph or so. That is higher than I would like to have, but when you're talking about being under 2000 RPM, you really will make no power and you'll be constantly downshifting. It might work if you lived out in an area where the land is big and flat, but it definitely wouldn't work for me out here in Pennsylvania.
My Dodge with the Cummins in it had enough torque that it could have stood to have an extra overdrive gear on the highway. It ran about 2200 @ 70 with 3.73s in 6th gear. But, that engine made 600 lb-ft @ 1600 RPM. You really aren't looking at anything close to that on a V10. A PSD 7.3 might handle it.
