I am willing to try doing it. I have 111 on my 2000 and it runs great so I may wait awhile longer. The fuel filter was an easy change, and I keep the thing well lubed. Other than a few noisy suspension bushings it is a terrific truck.
The guy who is claiming to get 16mpg, totally do-able. My X has gotten 16 on many occassions,
Alright, so what the F am I doing wrong then?
I bought it a few hundred miles away from my house, drove it home and the day after went another couple of hundred miles so the first two tanks were mostly highway and I still got 10.5???
i drove from reno to los angeles cruise controlled at 65mph...very light foot and i got 17mpg....never did it again..more like 15 avg on freeway when i drive...so its possible. thats on the lie o meter and i filled up and it was correct

..and NO, I don't go crazy on the gas
I got about 12+ towing my 7000lb tralier this weekend, up to the mountains doing 60mph most of the way. When I unhooked it I was getting about 17 highway. The lie-o-meter thing sometimes hit higher reading as high as 19, but I watch the fuel consumption fill up to fill up to measure. Regular was 2.59 here so its better, but not great.
Maybe the filters on yours ( air and/ or fuel) ot spark plug issues? Coils? Something small can make a big mileage difference. I run an injector cleaner thru the system every so often also.
Towed my 2500 lb boat from Detroit to Chatanooga this past weekend. 11.3 MPG at 75-80 mph. The return trip without the trailer got me 13.1 average at the same speed.
I have 430's and the best I have ever gotten was 13.5 towing nothing. I usually get between 9 and 11 when towing. 9 with 24 ft TT and 11 with 2 quads on a 14 ft trailer.
Doug and george, on ur drivers door u know the sticker that says how much ur truck can handle weight wise on the front and rear end? Well there are a bunch of codes and one of them tells which axle u have.
