Lately I have noticed that my 06 6.0 smells horrible. I can't roll the windows down if I am stoppped. I recently had the downpipe replaced because I couldn't turn the heater on if I was stopped. This concerns me because I have two little ones ridding with me. Anyone else have problems of this nature? What might be the cause?
Thanks in advance for the help.
Larry
I have noticed that my truck will smell worse when I fill up at certain stations. I also know someone that does not have a cat and you can smell his truck from across the parking lot.
I would contact your service department again. If the tech did not loosen the turbo and align the pipes in sequence you still probably have a leak or another cracked pipe from improper installation.
I have an '06 F250 Crewcab xlt with the Power Stroke Diesel, approx 10,000 miles. Completely stock. At 9000 miles, took to the dealer and they found a cracked Y-pipe behind turbo. Replaced Y-pipe under warranty, but I still get a diesel exhaust odor in the cab, although less than before the repair.
I posted this on the SD forum:
Most often at start up in the morning, or when idling. I almost always smell it when I have the dash vent on. The exhaust odor will blow right in my face. Had it to the dealer two more times since the initial repair, and they say there are no exhaust leaks. They did the smoke test from the end of the exhaust pipe.
This happens when the windows are closed. I've noticed it in many conditions; windy, still, hot, cold, etc.
Prior to the third warranty visit, I thought I had it nailed down. I noticed soot on the firewall where the cast iron manifold meets the steel pipe. Techs said no smoke came out there during their test, so they said "no leak."

When I took my '07 6.0 in for diesel fume smell in the cab, the service tech told me my fuel smelled "funny" and wanted to know where I bought my fuel. I thought he was full of crap until I read your post. I was under the impression that all fuel delivered to a certain area (city) came out of the same holding tank and was just distributed to different stations. But maybe there are different "flavors"?
