I've decided instead of adding a sub, I may just want to upgrade the door speakers in my 2004 F250 C/C. I have the factory 6-disc changer and I want to know what way to go with door speakers to get the best bass. I know it won't be as good as having a sub, but it's got to be better than the factory speakers. Opinions, anyone?
A good set of component's with some sound deadening would do a world of good.
Do you plan on installing an amp for your new speakers? HU power will accomplish what you are looking for.
If I had the money, I would go with a set of RE XXX comps. I have played with the XXX 6.5 and it is a beast. I would even consider a set of mpyre audio comps. I had their 65x, and it was a nice little speaker. I would like to try the rest of their stuff.
Next, before I get all long winded, do you have room in your doors for comp's? I know in my 03 excursion that I don't. I am going to FG it all in.
A good set of speakers can get you some bass, but it's never going to be as good as a subwoofer. I don't know if you have seen them but JL audio makes a thing called the stealthbox for the super duty trucks. they have 2 versions, one installs inside the factory center console, and one replaces the bottom part of the center seat if ou have it. These look factoy, sound great, and allow you to get a sub without sacrificing storage behind the back seat. Here is a link if you want to check it out. http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_s...4&model_id=734
really some nice speakers can get you bass..the focal components are some awesome speakers..they are expensive but if you get these, they hid the lows and mids very well...a sub is probably not neeed.
i got two jl 12w3's in mine..and it sounds good..but i dont have am components...but its your choice
it really all depends on what kind of music you listen to, how much bass you are hoping for, and how much you are willing to spend. nothing is worse than paying a bunch of money with high expectations and being disappointed. i've been there too many times.
if you listen to rap, and want the loud booming bass that rap listeners like, then you will for sure need at least a set of 10" subs.
if you listen to rock and/or country, then you will be alright with just some nice door speakers. I'm running pioneer 4 way 50w rms 6.5's (amped of course) in my doors, powered with my kenwood xxv-01d headunit, and they sound amazing for the price (about $80)
not the best option for him though, he was talking about upgrading door speakers. if he put those 7" midbass speakers in there, he'd lose the highs from the tweeters found in regular door speakers, plus he'd have to cut a new hole in the door. and i think those midbass speakers are meant for their own enclosure anyways, and he might as well put real subs in if he's going to do that.
Really, I'm looking for good on the cheap. I've spent a lot on the truck and some other extras, and I know I'll be fine with just upgrading my door speakers and using the factory head unit. I'm not trying to blow anyone away, just want to enjoy my Christian Rock. I don't want to give up any storage space for a sub, either. Since my first post, I've been trying to decide between Kicker, Pioneer and Sony 6x8's- any will be better than factory.
If you aren't to set on those brands, take a look at some Infinity speakers. I put in 2 sets of Kappa 682.7cf's and man are they nice for the price. A little bit of a hassle because the crossover is a separate box that i had to fit inside the door panel space but i made it fit. I probably could have gotten somewhat better performance from components but i wanted to keep the OEM look. They reproduce bass suprisingly well but if you have the volume way up, the low, strong bass from the woofer will vibrate the tweeter which is a little annoying (but not for long two amps coming end of this month to finish up my system).
Has anyone mounted a 6.5" component set in the doors w/o having to cut out the factory grill slots? I'm wondering if there is enough depth to mount a set of Infinity Kappa perfect 6.1 component sets in the doors while keeping the factory look.
