Tach died

What are the causes of tach failure? No CEL, No rough idle, no other problems. Just no tach.

Not to sound dense but what might be disconnected.

The story behind the moniker is that something always seems to happen. I have done thing backwards, and sometimes completely wrong, and its really a surprise when it actually works. This is what happens when dyslexia meets the real world and the only one you can afford to pay is yourself.

Could be something as simple as a blown fuse. I was changing the light bulb in my overhead cab light and accidently grounded something. Next thing I know I have no speedometer.

If it's got a distributer, check the lead coming from it. Seems to me those older systems used a signal from the distributer for the tach.

Good luck

Sorry For some odd reason, I was reading the specs off of Crazypaws sig. You definitely have a distributerless unit. As far as I know, she gets her signal from the computer. Like the guys were sayin', check the connections and fuses.

Sorry for not responding back sooner but I was gone all day with my mom.
Yes my truck is distributorless. For some unknown reason the tach has started working again. When I turned it on this morning it was showing rpms. Been showing rpms all day. I am still confused as to what might be causing this.

It's probably the tach itself. If the computer isn't receiving the tach input, it will throw on the engine light.

So it's either the wiring between the comp and the IC, or the tach itself.

Mine's doing some goofy things too.. bouncing around and stuff.. i think it's about to fail also.

Good luck.

The CEL is now on but I haven't had time to have it checked, possibly on Friday. The tach is working but it is bouncing around a lot. Sometimes it completely bottoms out and a few seconds it will spring back to life. It may do this once r it may do it several times in a row. I still don't hear or feel anything wrong.
