I was with the impression that the head gasket issue was on the 03 and 04's. Are a number of poeple having problems with the later years as well? I just traded my 04 or an 07. I had had the head gaskets replaced once on my 04 under warranty.
I know of two guys that have a 2006 and 2007 that just got their Banks equipment removed from there 6.0's due to blown head gaskets.............Took them in for repair hopefully warranty will cover??
That's not good to hear. I know that many people on here seem to be leaning towards SCT........is SCT any safer then Banks?
On a side note, my buddy thinks that he may have blown his head gaskets....he has a 7.3....and uses a Superchips tuner on med.....and pulls a trailer with a tractor on it. We think we may have an idea as to why the head gaskets may be blown
I know a Banks setup is more on the mild side in the tuning realm, but I have heard that SCT is not as hard on the 6.0's than many other tuners. I think that these 6.0 head gaskets would have blown anyway regardless if they are hopped up or not. Not a matter of if but when......
Scottman,
Any good Ford Diesel Tech can pull the head and look at the burn pattern and determine if that engine had a tuner. Hmmm, burn pattern?. With that said, there is definately something different going on in the combustion chamber. Don't you think that tuners are the cause of blown head gaskets? It seems obvious to me. That is why the new 6.4 diesels were designed tuner UN-friendly. Ford got tired of covering repairs, where the customer was responsible for the failure, i.e. tuners installed on their trucks.
Now I don't have anything against people with tuners on their trucks, and don't want to start another one of those Tuner good/Tuner Bad debates, but the writing is on the walls. I personally don't think it was likely for that head gasket to go while operated bone stock. But that's just my humble opinion. I think most agree with me though. Including Ford R&D. And they're allot smarter than this hillbillie.

My engine light came on yesterday comming home from the dealer, new glass that was replace under warranty. I think it's the turbo underboost code again third time and I have 2500 miles. I think the turbo is junk I can hear a squeek comming off throttle also at idel and lack of power. It's a 06 left-over I just pick up no mods to the engine or trans just an auto start but the first engine light came on a week before the starter went in.
stoker you could have a bad turbo from the truck sitting on the lot too long and got a case of turbo rot from lack of use. They get started and moved around and never get heated up. The moisture causes the veins in the turbo to rust and get stuck causing problems......
Stroker420: what's your build date on the truck? If it's mid Jan '06 or newer, that'd have the newer turbo in there (upgraded with some machining to prevent vanes from sticking). If that's the case it's the 1st one of those "newer" turbos I've heard of a problem with...
2006 With nothing but problems.
15k miles and lost power. Had to replace turbo.
Still no power, new fuel filters and better for 2 weeks.
yesterday Ford road side assistance had to tow me back in.
lost power going down highway and just keep slowing down until it would not move and made a ton of ratteling and banging noise and died. it will not start now.
Not sure what next, Talked to 2 guys around here that had to have the Head Gaskets replaced.
This is my second NEW Ford truck and my last. After looking at the new 08 F-450's I love them. But I will not own a Job Build #1. Next week I WILL be driveing a new truck, Just not sure what make.
I was thinking it could be from sitting around and only getting a few miles here and there. I don't know the build date how wold I get that?
And if you can't find the Engine Build date (which is what bigredtruckmi was pointing you to), look at the build mo/yr on the door. I think engines built after November/December in '05, and trucks assembled 1/15/06 and later should have the newer turbo. Might be quickest to look at the door to see what mo/yr you have...
btw: I never did say on my own '07: it's only 3500 miles and had just the serpintine belt replaced (they had a bad batch that were squealing when cold), otherwise flawless! Which is oppisite of my '05 Duramax that at 100 miles we knew had major underdesigned cooling system issues, then again, there was plenty of underdesigned areas on the Chevy...
