There were a ton of 2007 Dodge Cummins 2500-3500's made with the NON-EPA rule 5.9 motor, that's what I would buy while you can still get them. I wouldn't touch that 6.4 from some of the things I am hearing and reading. I had a Cummins before my 6.0 Ex and I did not ever have 1 thing go wrong with the motor or automatic tranny. I had to get the Ford Ex since it's the only SUV with a diesel. I love Ford trucks, just don't like the probs with their diesel motors. My local news station had a story this week on the 6.4 flame machine, it looked like bad PR for Ford!!
If you are loyal to the Ford name I guess i would buy a newer 6.0. But if you don't care about the brand name, I think I would be considering a pre EPA rule 5.9 Dodge Cummins or pre EPA rule Duramax.

OK. You guys talked me into it. I now own a 2007 F350 6.0 CC DRW King Ranch. Pricing is great as they are trying to clear them out. Between dealer discounts, incentives, rebates, and a little comparison shopping and haggling, I paid $11,800 less than sticker. The final price was less than I paid for my 2004 F250 6.0 CC SRW Lariat which I bought at invoice.
Didn't plan on the DRW, but selection is getting scarce on the '07 F350 SRW. Could not find a SRW color I wanted. A little better on F250's but not much. If you are on the fence and wanting a good deal, better look soon. Dealers around here are advertising $10K to $12K off MSRP. My local dealer started at $10K under. Got him to $11.5K by showing him dealer ads for $12K off from Dallas area. Then got another $300 rebate for being a small business owner.
Congrats on the new truck. The 07's are getting scarce up here as well. I was up at the dealers the other day and they only had 6 left that I could see. Four of them were cc 4wd srw 350's and one was a drw and one was a 250 work truck. All were 6.0's except for the 5.4 work truck
153,000km's on my 04. Still going strong, alot better than the 05 I had, I should have apined it yellow, maybe brown would be a better color for it, oh well Ford has it back as the lease came due, their problem now.
In spite of what you may read, I think you'll find an overwhelming majority of recent 6.0 owners in love with their trucks. I've only had my 06 SD king ranch for about 3 months now. At first I was wondering what I'd gotten myself into, now I just smile at the thought of getting to drive my truck somewhere. Congratulations!
20,000 miles and only one problem. Ford replaced the water pump pulley at 16,000 miles. Tow a 32' 5 th wheel weighing in at 12,000 lb and a Cat skid steer loader and trailer weighing in at 16,000 lb. 06 Lariat cc, swd, 4wd and srw. Running a cat back Banks exhaust, Auto Meter gauges and will be ordering the sct turner soon.
30,000 miles on my 6.0........ Turbo replaced at 9.ooo miles Tranny at 10,000 miles. Ongoing oil main seal leak from 12,000 to 21,000 miles. Tranny problem again at 18,000 miles. passenger window replaced 2 times due to scratches, passenger leather seat replaced stitching came apart, 4x4 low wouldn't engage at 28,000 miles it's fixed don't even know what they fixed on that one. I love hanging at my local Ford dealership know them all by name name!! LOL
But I am still driving the 6.0 to this day love it when it's on the road running good!
It was a tough call, but I went ahead and traded my 04 for an 07. Between the sales price on the new 07 and what they gave me for my old 04, I think I got a decent deal. Tax, tag and title included and less what they gave me for my old 04 with 111,000 miles on it, I was under $20,000 out the door. If memory surves my right and my quick math was accurate, I think the total cost of the 07 was almost the same as my 04 was (which I bought Nov. of 03). Taking inflation into account, my 07 was less then the 04.
I am just glad all of the number crunching is down now....I think I was starting to split hairs......bottom line, I think I have a nice truck that should last me awhile with minimal issues.....did I mention that it is also paid for
Find the post "This is why the 6.4 has a TSB" and watch the video of the tailpipe fire and listen to the noise. I heard one on my dealers lot that sounded really good but......! I just bought a "noisy" 6.0 and I love it so far. Only problem that I have had was shuting down that dam key chime.
Ok, I've been looking to see if others had the same problems I've been having and I've not seen any. Have an '06 with 13,000 miles, been a great truck other than I can't trust it on long trips now. Last two trips; 1st delayed 9 hours while they replaced the turbo at 5,000 miles. 2nd two days of nursing the truck and trailer home because of overheating. Turns out I have blown head gaskets. Beginning to think I just got a lemon of an engine (it happens) Everything else on the truck works great, so I decided to go back and trade it in on the '08 F450. I've had great luck with first year run models for many years and think this may be where I messed up. LOL
Performance tuner would be my guess. Usually the case when 6.0 head gaskets fail. Then the owners want warranty work done and start complaining. LOL
Not saying it IS the case here, but it sure does sound familiar.
My 05 with 50K is outstanding. No probs. Congrats on your new truck.
