I have an 02 FX4 5.4L 4R70W...drained my pan and changed filter this past wknd...but NO PLUG for torque converter on my truck! We turned and turned and turned...never to find a plug!
I'll stick with Mercron V myself, those multi-vehicle fluids cause problems later on down the road. It can't be for a Mercron V only tranny if it can also be used in a Mercron III or Dextron type tranny, because there are properties in those fluids that will kill a Mercron V only trans.

It does not have to be in neutral. You are better off leaving it in Park to be safer. If it is 2001, it should be the last year to use a drain plug. I have the 01 supercab with 5.4 4x4 off road and towing package with the secondary cooler. I used nearly 3 gallons when I did a complete drain.
Yep,he is correct;leave it in park! And make sure you get the filter for the 4X4 transmission!
I heard powerflush could lead to problems because it moves all the crud around. I do not know if true or not??
I just had the filter in my 97 F150 4r70w changed and the tranny shop I went to said that they don't really like to do powerflushes. I tend to believe that a flush can do more harm than good. The shop that did the filter said to change the filter every 25,000, they also said that when you get done doing any heavy pulling he said smell the fluid to see if it's burned.
