[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-May-02 AT 09:18 AM (EST)]Transmission code T is for a AOD automatic overdrive trans.Spring codes usually list front&rear. The 8 is for the front springs, but I couldn't find it.The second code,Z,is for Ford part # E3TA-5560-ANA.I believe these to be standard rear springs. The front spring codes I found listed in this source book are B,C,G,U,&V.The 1988 models may have had different front spring codes...I'm not completely sure, because the source for this info. is a 1989 reference/code book.Just in case it is a B,and not an 8,the factory part # is E0TA-5310-BC.
Thanks, I just drove this 1988 in question. It had a "D" 1 & 2 on the shift display, no button for overdrive on the shifter. Where is the over drive switch?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-May-02 AT 02:13 PM (EST)]The AOD doesn't have a cancel switch/button to lock-out overdrive, you're thinking of the later E4OD transmission. If it is a'88 Bronco, with T for a trans. code,it's a AOD-the shift pattern will look like this-P-R-N-D(overdrive postition)-D-1.No "2" is on the pattern. The E4OD didn't see production until 1990(some late year 1989s had this trans.,too.),so if it's a 1988 year truck,it can't have the E4OD(code E).Not unless it was swapped in later, but it didn't come from the factory that way.The E4OD's shift pattern is P-R-N-D-2-1.The cancel switch on '89-'91 vehicles will be located on the dashboard. On 1992&up vehicles,Ford moved the location to the end of the transmission selector lever. It could also be that this '88 Bronco has the C-6 three-speed automatic transmission. The shift pattern of the C-6 is P-R-N-D-2-1.The code for a C-6 would be K for a Bronco,or a pick-up.The C-6 won't have a cancel switch/button because it doesn't have overdrive.
The shift pattern I saw was P-R-N-D-2-1 for this 1988, the code was "T" maybe I need to take a closer look. Your saying it should look like P-R-N-D-D1-2 ?
