If I cant afford it, i might as well make it. BroncoAir bumpers cost $2000, something I'd have to take a loan out for. I am a senior in high school and have auto mechanics for first 2 hours of the day. Instead of sitting around and doing nothing like the rest of the class, i decided I'd make my own bumper. With my budget, it wasnt so bad to make it. I bought a 4x8 sheet of 3/16 steel, and 8 foot of 2" thickwall tubing. About $190. I made a few different cardboard patterns and eventually got down to one pattern where i could take apart, and use as a pattern. The big peices were cut out with the plasma cutters, and smaller with the hyd. shear that cut through this plate like butter. Heres some pics of the build. A LOT OF GRINDING!
6 lights total, herculined, Warn 3/4" shackles. $400 for the finished product. $2000...ha!
I have enough material for a rear bumper, so I have that welded up. 11" drop on the middle, 2 angles going up to 4" from the top. Wrapping around the corners from some protection and Hi-lift placement. Insetting the license plate, hitch reveiver, 2 inset backup lights, 2 LED brake lights, shackles, chain hookups....
Looks realy sharp! I would like to get one made like that for my 85 ford 150. I have not found anything hardly for my truck and the ones I find are very high and don't want to spend that much either. You got a pattern deminsions you would not mind sharing on your build? I like to see how your rear bumper turns out also.
It looks like you left the inside of bumper hollow right? Did you make vertical brace supports throught the bumper I take it? I would probably close it in on back on mine if I can find someone here to let me use there tools. Iuse to do a lot of metal work when younger but now don't have place or tools to do it. Man it looks great. I like the arg ones but they don't make it for my truck and then i checked prices and my chin dropped!!!!! Cost of off road bumpers has really gone up!
WOW! That's really sharp. Any idea how many hours you put into it? Fabulous job! Can't wait to see the rear bumper. I've gotta do something for my truck too but haven't decided what yet. Hope mine comes out as sweet as yours.
i just looked at BroncoAir bumpers for the f150 or bronco and they come out to about 700. i wouldnt want it powder coated but thats not a bad price its as heavy duty as it looks. but yours looks just like it.
very nice!!!!!!!, only one thing id worry about if it was my truck, those vertical grill guard bars are not going to be strong enough to pull from where your clevices are at.
I would also like some plans/material list/patterns....anything!( if you want to) Because that looks amazing. I had to take a double take on that final result!
about the shackles. on bronco air if you look close the shackle mouns are brced with triangular pieces on both sides. if your going to be pullin others out. i would highly advie you do this. otherwise this is a great job! Keep up the good work.
also very interested in plans if you have them and are willing to send me some. i am considering one for my 96 f150. drewnederhoff@yahoo.com
