hey guys,
did a fishing trip friday night got back around 2 am. it was windy that night and alot of sea grass had blown into the docks and was covering the slips.
i decided to pull out using 4x4 low, got the boat out without even pushing the ol ranger.
now i have used 4x4 high alot but no 4x4 low. man i spent the next 30 minutes trying to figure out why it wouldnt come out of low.
after contemplating trading the ranger in (at 2 30 am) i decided to pull out the manual.
well its very easy-
place in nuetral
aplly the brake
switch into 4 high wait 3 seconds
switch into 2wd afetr it switches into high
away we go.
after the minute it took to read the directions, and completing this task i know longer want to trade in the ranger.
on to sunday after very windy conditions all weekend i went to a different slip this time, noone likes to use it because its not maintained very well, wet grass and low tide conditons coming out plus a steep graded slip makes for some fun times watching people get pissed off having a hard time getting out.
all makes and models of 2wd trucks have a hard time, people getting in the back of the beds to give weight, jumping up and down, tires spinning, people swaring makes for a fun time.
it was my turn, loaded the boat actually roled back a little and went over the edge of the slip, im like great, wet conditions and now i have to bring it over the edge and up the slip,
dropped it into 4low and pulled it up and over the edge and up the wet slip with grass like it was nothing.
i pulled out my friends lifted chevy with 44 inch boggers and a big glock. the water was over the intake on the chevy and i pulled him out in two tugs with the rope. he bet me 50 i couldnt get him out of his tracks, much less all the way out. when we were sitting on the beach i got paid
I cut down a tree the other day, and left about 5 feet of the trunk sticking up....about 15 inches diameter. I wrapped a chain around what was left of the tree and used 4L with my 94 Ranger to pull it out. I only barely came off idle and I was able to yank the tree right out. It was just an Aspen tree, and the roots aren't that deep, but deep enough that I had to repair some sprinkler pipe that came out with the roots!
Fordboy, I used mine once to pull a 85 3/4 ton with 35's when it was buried up to the top of the tires. I guess I should have put some money on that...
Just remember with the ESOF 4x4 that you run it through the ranges at least once a month, to keep the 4WD motor functional, otherwise you'll have a 2WD truck the ONE time you need 4WD.
This is so true, I can't preach that enough, use the 4x4 at least once a month in both ranges even if it's in your driveway. The more you use it, the easier it will function. When my truck was new, it had a delay trying to get it into low range, but now as soon as I turn the **** it pops in and comes out just as fast. It helps keep the shift motor freed up. There's people who have had a 4x4 for years and never engage the 4x4, then the one time they need it, "nothing'. The hubs won't engage or the shift motor is gummed up or not functioning at all. I don't have hubs, but the shift motor can leave you looking silly as well.
a 26" redfish, it was blowing hard with the wind and it was cool like 68, plus a lack of bikinis on the beach. i thought i asked everyone for there prayers for good weather this weekend, what happened? lol
Good deal, but the lack of bikinis would of made it a short day for sure, thats why I perfere deer hunting, the two legged kind ha ha. At least your impressed with your ranger, you might not be so fast to jump on the taco band wagon the more you get to love your little ford. Rangers are a good ole truck and they are all truck, no car like features to be found, for sure not in the ride ha ha.
