Exhaust

okay ive got some money saved up to put in a new exhaust system in. im thinking of a flowmaster because magnoflow seems to be really expensive. looking at the flowmasters site. ive decided on either the 40 series or super 40. i have a 5.4 2004 f150. anyone have any ideas on the cost of the system and the cost of the installation? my friend said the cost total for his with the 40 series was 300. but he had a 95 chevy. so if anyone who has an 04 with a flowmaster 40 series tell me what it cost them id appreciate it!

Are you looking at buying it online and taking it to be installed or are you just going to a local dealer/installer? Because my price is from having it installed at by a local dealer (exhaust pro's)

I would check a local muffler shop to see what they charge to install dual exhaust. I bought a flowmaster super 40 and called the muffler shop that does lots of custom work and they quoted me about $200. Of course I bought the muffler on the net for $78. That was the price to supply the pipe bend it and install. Hope this helps.

Yeah i was looking at doing the same thing but with the Magnaflow, but where I am at people usually don't like to do those things for you, yo have to buy it from them or they will make up for it in another way. The Maggies systems online through performancepeddler.com are $600. Do you know what the pipe diameter size is for our trucks?

On my 05 I was told that the pipe size was 2.5". When I had my Sport Trac I paid $300 to have a 40 series si/do Flowmaster with 3" tips installed. I am going to be getting a Magnaflow installed on my truck, ordering the muffler and tip from performance peddler. The guy at the muffler shop I am going to quoted me $90 to have it installed and routed in front of the rear passengers side tire.

FYI, just had my 2000 F150, 5.4 done with a Maggie. Price for the muffler was same I would pay on line with shipping from Performancepeddler. All I wanted was a cat-back and wanted it welded. Had Precision Tire, a local shop do it and $194 out the door. Love the sound...just what I wanted. Jim

and it would it be cheaper to just buy the muffler from them but have it connect to my stock pipes that go out the rear right tire? would it give me the same sound and performance? is it okay to ask for the stock muffler or do they keep it? is the cat back just the muffler? sorry for all the questions.

Thumbs up

Precision suggested the 11266 and I went with it after checking on-line with Magnaflows options. They just replaced the muffler. That was the only modification. Used all the same exhaust piping. I did not keep the old muffler, but could have. After all, it's your muffler! Sound is something hard to quantify over the internet, but it is definitely louder than stock. Has a throaty V8 rumble without getting obnoxious enuff to bother the wife. Sweet sound by my ears! Jim

I also have a dodge ram with the hemi and stock exhaust is 3 in. The muffler shop told me its better to have single exhaust because the pipe gets higher temps to get rid of the moisture fast and keep from rotting the pipe prematurely. Dual outlet mufflers/cat back exhaust (fake duals as they call it) is more about the look. The flowmaster super 40 I bought is 3"in 2.5" dual out. I could just as easily bought a 3 " single inlet/outlet muffler and kept the stock tail pipe and saved the $$. However I like the look of the dual outlets. Shop Ebay for a good price on Flowmasters and tips. I got 2.5" in 3" out stainless magnaflow tips for a nice price plus free shipping. Good Luck with your exhaust ! ! !

I have the Magnaflow Supertruck exhaust with stainless tips on my 04 5.4 supercab xlt. Lookes just like the Lighting exhaust. Dualles flared out in front of the passenger rear wheel. Keeps the road grim off and they won't rot as quick as they would if they were behind the wheel. Nice and queit crusin at 80, but nice and loud when you get on it. $489.00 including shipping and about 35 minutes to install myself.
