Radius arm nut torque?

i have been reading articles related to changing radius arm bushings in this forum for the last couple hours. i just replaced my bushings and i am trying to find out how much torque is required on the large 1 1/8" nut at the frame end of the radius arm, the nut that sandwiches the bushings together. i remember reading a post that said 300+ ft/lbs, but no year was given. i have a 1992 f 150 2wd with a 300. anyone know the correct torque spec?

I'm pretty sure it's 180 Ft/Lb.. but you gotta torque it while it's sitting on the wheels.

How I do it is count the threads showing before I take it apart. Then once going back together, I keep the vehicle (frame) on the jackstands, and put a floor jack on that side of the axle. You should be able to easily move the axle forwards or backwards a inch or two with the floor jack.

Then I tighten the nut about the same thread count. I watch the poly bushing and only compress until it -slightly- bulges.

imo, You can not use the same torque spec for a poly bushing that is replacing a solid rubber bushing that had two metal spacers at each end to hold it together. Otherwise you might crack the poly bushing because poly compresses far less then rubber and is less flexible.

i am sure the bushings were just the stock rubber type with the metal spacers at each end. no torque specs in my crappy haynes manual. guess it's time for a better manual.

80-120 ft.lbs.(with rubber bushings/plastic insulator) The "metal"spacers on the ends are just washers.

The 300+ lb/ft rating is for the radius arm/I beam bolt...It a bugger to break loose.
