Main bearings!!!
I just recently pulled my rear main cap on my 78 351m to replace the rear seal and I noticed that the bearings really need to be replaced. The crank looks extremely good no scratches or nothing. I was wondering if I could pull the old bearings out and roll a new set in without actually pulling the crank and pistons out? what do you guys think? Just want to keep it running till I get my big block built. hehehe

Yes its possible to change bearings in the vehicle. but personaly take the crank out, you can leave the pistons in the engine just have a buddy to help you support the crank while taking it out and putting it back in. The main thing is to keep every thing really clean since you may be working on the ground.
Also do an oil pressure test, you can get a mechanical guage to test it, if the oil pressure is above 10 psi id just leave them in it only takes about 7 psi to keep the light out.

While you are in there go ahead and put in new ones. You can even mike the shaft and bearings and get undersize bearings or even shim the bearings. Have someone that really knows how to use a micrometer measure the shaft. This is no place for an amateur.
