When it gets nice(r) out, I'm going to pull my 300 and replace the crank, oilpump, main seals, and bearings. I am going to order a crank beforehand so I don't have to wait to get mine cut at the machine shop.
the question is: there are two cranks available for my year, one with an oil slinger by the rear main seal, and one without.
Anyone have a clue on this? the motor is in an '85 f-150 4x4...
Take this with a grain of salt because I'm just making a somewhat educated guess. One crank is probably for use with a one piece rear main seal and the other for a two piece. That is about the year they swithed to the one piece, and 85 might be a year that it could be either.
I looked on the parts website, and they said the cranks were interchangeable, which is really WEiRD.
btw, silver streak- I ran into a guy with an 88 motor he'll sell for $100 if I help pull it. Can I pull the EFI junk off and use it with the old carb&manifold?
(for the record, I'm going to pull all the EFI to eventually swap the truck entirely to EFI)
I think that the efi block will work with the carb head, carb, and intake.
Also 85 was a year that many things were changed, trucks made in late 85' have parts that corispond to 86' model year. As for the 2 cranks, Good luck.
