Pull the dash panel off and disconnect the switch. It should be very easy to open up the switch once it is removed. If your switch isn't working it is probably because they were made very poorly. I opened mine up and soldered the contacts together so I could at least open the window from the back. If your contacts don't mate right in the front your rear taigate switch won't operate the window. Good Luck!
Thanks for giving me the link to dash removal
on the Bronco. This helped us to get to the
dash switch. It was the dash switch that was
not making good contact and we got it fixed.
There are two silver trim strips on the dash next to the vents. Remove those carefully with a flat screw driver. There will be two small bolts underneath. remove those. Next, remove the headlight switch **** using a small flat screw driver by putting the screwdriver in the slot (you may have to turn on the headlights and rotate the **** to find it) and pull towards you. The dash is removable now and you have access to the wires for the tailgate switch and electronic 4 wheel drive switch (if equipped). I would suggest dropping the tilt wheel all the way down and putting the key in to bring the gear lever all the way down. This makes it easier. Also note that the switch is about $21.00. I just replaced mine.
Before getting too far, let me ask you, Does the key switch work on the tailgate itself? If not, you may have a wiring problem. Each switch needs the others wiring to work. Both switched when not activated are in the ground position and have their own power supply. If the rear switch works, then the dash probably needs a simple replacement described above..
