over heating

'99PSD; My motor never overheats, but; this week I noticed the temp rising as I started up inclines and the hillsides, it would cool back down and run normal on the flat (pullin a trailer). Running unloaded it also ran normal. I never heard any noticable fan clutch engagement. Would that be going bad? Is there any way to check it? thanks//

Sounds completely normal to me. Pulling a tow load up an incline will definitely heat things up. Eventually (maybe when it gets warmer) the fan should engage, too. Still completely normal. However, just to be safe, check your coolant with the strips to make sure it's still in good shape. Hopefully, you've done a few coolant changes by now.

You can switch to ELC (Shell ELC is supposed to be really good) if you get tired of changing the green stuff every two years. My '02 came with it and has already been changed. It's supposed to be 5 year coolant, so it was due.
