Lately I have been hearing a humming noise that I believe is my fuel pump, while driving, sitting at light etc. Is this normal? Never really noticed it before and I've had the truck since I bought it new in '04.
I seem to remember when at start up I would hear it run for a few seconds then turn off...now it just seems constant.
Are you sure it's not your vacuum pump? Is it under the hood by the passenger side battery? That means you have a vacuum leak. Heater control will default to defrost often in this situation until pump catches up.

The humming is coming from the driver side. I hear it when I turn the key on before start up and while running.
Only thing I can think of off the top of my head is trash in the regulator keeping it from closeing or a injector dumping fuel in a cylinder. Bad/stuck pintle.
Neither of which is good. If it has been doing this awhile check your oil for fuel dilution. If it is bad enough you can hydrolock.

Honestly not sure how long its been doing it. I usually have the radio on so I cant notice it but last week I had the radio off and have been noticing it.
Best I can tell my oil seemed fine.
Is there an additive I can use if something might be stuck??
Can a bad FICM keep the fuel pump running? I had it repaired a few years ago with Ed but I had to replace my alternater and batteries 5 months ago because alt. was going bad.
Im not sure what would make it stay on as there is no pressure switch that I am aware of that would tell the PCM when to turn the pump on and off, or under what circumstances the PCM will command the pump to run. One of our resident tech's or perhaps Blades, Bullitt390 or Bismic would know the answer.
Appreciate you at least confirming that yours shuts off. Mine stays on from key turned on till I'm to my destination and I turn the motor off.
I travel 40 miles to work and it's on the whole time.
I'm thinking something is holding the return spring open and it can't build to the pressure it needs. Does the truck still run fine? If you decide to check the fuel return spring you might as well get the blue spring update its a full kit with new o rings and plunger. You can get it cheaper at an international dealer at around 40 bucks. When is the last time you changed fuel filters and what brand did you use?

Truck runs fair but it's been like that for a while. runs like crap at first start up but gets better as it gets warm.
Been a long while (years) since fuel filters were changed and it was done at the dealership.
As far as the fuel return springs...never heard of them.
You haven't changed the fuel filters in years? Does it have new filters in there now? If not that's where I would start, and make sure you use OEM filters.
