hey everyone, i recently started seeing an increase in my EGTs the past week or so, and dont know if its something to be worried about. as my sig states i have 6637, wicked wheel, and 5" mko. at 70 down the highway i was seeing between 500 and 600. now in the last week i am seeing between 700 and 800 at the same speed. now before the last week it has been colder than a well diggers *** and then it warmed up to the high 60s this week. is the increase in outside temp causing the increase in EGTs or should i start looking for problems. also i used to be able to run the quarter w/o gettin real close to that 1200 mark, now i hit the 1200 mark before i even get to 60 mph. ive havent owned this particular diesel in the summer so i dont know how it runs in anything but cold weather.
what tunes are you running in?
it could be the higher outside temps, but hard to tell, i dont run that hot in the summer, normal summer 400 to 500 i reckon on stock tune, and 600 to 900 towing 12 to 13K. i would maybe look for a boost leak that may have came with the warm temps. check you CAC tubes for oily residue, usualy a good way to tell.
i normaly run the 80 econ tune, but i also tried tried running on stock tune and no difference. i checked and cleaned all hoses and since i recently installed the wicked wheel i rechecked everything in that department. what i have noticed since the egts went up is a bit of a low howl that seems to sound turbo related, but is way seperat sound than the normal turbo whistel.
im pretty sure that this isnt weather related because my egts shoot up to 800-900 on every hill i come to. even before the 5" and wicked wheel i wouldnt see over 750 on hills. thats not loaded or pulling anything.
that explains the howl sound? i still see a steady 5psi of boost drivin down the highway and they climb fast when i get on it. there is no difference performance wise. still runs the same
i know mine go up in the summer by about 100 deg, but there is about 50 to 80 degree difference in outside temps summer and winter, ive heard many blame boost leaks for newly found higher egts, how old is you 6637, and it also may be the wicked wheel combined with the higher outside temps. as i understand it, the WW, doesnt move as much air as the stock wheel as specific speeds, though i do not have one so i cannot say for a fact hear nor there.
not necessarily, your turbo is still building boost to keep up with the demand.
i had a good leak, and preassure was the same exept at full throttle. it was 2 psi off.
unless you see it, like the loose oily cac tubes, most make an intake block out of PVC with a preassure gauge and air nipple attached, you can also buy one, but i dont remember which site rite off hand.
so im go with plan A= remove, clean and replace all the hoses. its got 85,000 miles on er, and im sure the hoses havent been replaced. would it be a good idea just to go ahead and put new hoses on?
the silicone hose kit ranges from 140 to 160 ive seen, i think it would be a really good upgrade, and it includes all 6.
something else on my list to do.
