I've now put about 2K miles on my rig and have noticed the tranny is pretty lazy in shifting around town. I have been turning off the OD in town and it seems when I drive with the OD on the TC is slipping in some low throttle situations. Is this normal? Under hard acceleration (which I don't do often) it shifts really good. I've just ordered a DP with stock, 60tow, and 80econo. I'm hoping this helps. I'd like to stretch the tranny life as much as possible. I'm not towing anything right now, but am considering a toy hauler. Jody said the 60tow is good for low EGT towing. I forgot to ask about the tranny on that one, but I'm assuming it's probably a little harder on it than stock (?). Any comments, suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Todd
Also, are there any preventive maintenance stuff I can do other than changing the fluid that will help extend life?
In stock programming, the TC will be pretty lazy. You'll notice a big difference with the DP chip. TC locks will be better timed and more precise.
A good addition to the DP chip is a BTS valve body. It will also help clean up your shifts and should help with trans life. It's not on the BTS website, so you'll want to give them a call. www.brianstruckshop.com

i agree...the dp runs a little higher line pressure in the trans you will feel a lot better shifts and tc lock..i love my BTS vb..makes the shift alot better then stock..make sure if you get the DP and the BTS vb..that you tell both them guys this..they work together to make your trans the best it can be....
How much does a BTS valve body cost and is it a decent DIY project? I plan to drive it a while and see what my mileage looks like. Sort of chipping away at the mods. If this makes it a little more driveable, I may go after quiting it down a bit inside next. Looking at the sound material, crossover and the regulated fuel return although I see that is out of stock at ITP for some reason. Thanks for the comments.

http://guzzle.rbmicro.com/bts.html <<< VB install..prety easyto do...it cost 250 i think..pluss a deposit...you wont regret it..it will help the life of your tranny for sure....
just noticed you have the early 99 like mine..if you have the xle computer code like mine..you will love the DP better then any other tune you can find..most of them tunes dont run so well in our trucks..but jody has a good grip on this one now..the 80 econo will blow black smoke and putt an extra 105 hp on the ground that you will feel with BTS VB...

Excellent - I had assumed it would be much more. I ordered my tuner yesterday so I'm thinking it may be on the way already. I'm in Phoenix so I suppose I could have ITP burn the BTS modified codes before installing the new VB.
So what are the tell tale signs of a worn out transmission? That's my only concern. I've had the truck for so short a period of time that I can tell if things are changing or if it has always shifted like this. I'm pretty easy on it, but the weird little TC hickups make me worry a little about its condition. I've been told by Chris at KTM that the motor was well cared for so I'm hoping the tranny is in the same boat.
Ron -
What sort of change do you see in Pyro and tranny temps with the 60tow vs stock under load?
Thanks,
Todd
you will see an increase in EGT'S using the 60 tow climbing big hills and need to let off the throttle a little..but if you have the 40 tow to back this up then just switch to 40 tow and the egt's will drop a little rather then letting up on the throttle and loosing speed..she pulls good and trans works well in this set up..keep in mind I have the BTS vb a t/c lock...I don't have the true cool in yet as its winter here and my temps hasn't gone over 150 yet..and that was on a trip to Florida weather for Christmas...
