6637 mod

I'm looking into replacing the stock intake on my '01 F250. I've read a little about the 6637 mod and would like some opinions as to if this mod is better than just buying an intake kit. I looked at an AEM Brute Force intake, but it sounds like this 6337 mod may be a whole lot cheaper. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm also looking at the AIS Severe Duty kit. Any opinions between this one and the 6637?

I did a lot of reading through the forum pages here b4 I got the 6637 filter for my truck. I couldn't find a post that said it didn't work. Some folks stated that it isn't as quiet as an expensive filter kit. For $40 why not give it a try. When it's time to change the filter you can always upgrade then???

Fleet filters got them for $25. Its a little more noisey then the stock set up, but I like hearing the turbo. For the price and performance you cant go wrong.

so the filter minder, and the other sensor thing that runs into the airbox, we can just leave those off? install the 6637 filter, and thats it? and then either get 4 inch pip or just pull the stock plastic hose over the filter right?

Yep. That's the simplest approach. I ended up drilling a port on the end of my 6637 to re-install the filter minder. The other sensor is an air temp sensor is just riding on my fender well beside the 6637. Other guys have zip-tied the air temp sensor the the master cylinder. Won't make any real difference either way. I also saw where someone extended the wiring and inserted the temp sensor into the 6637 (or intake hose).

It all depends on how detailed and energetic you want to be.

My installation is in my gallery.

I started with the 6637 and after I got feed up with the noise while towing I got an AIS.

Get the 6637 and have more money for other mods like exhaust and gauges.

How did you guys attach your 6637 to the intake pipe? I just simply stuck a piece of 4 inch inside it but don't feel very comfortable without it clamped down. Will a big hose clamp work on keeping it in place?

FARM69... look in my gallery and you'll see how I made my connections. Essentially, I shoved a short piece of 4" exhaust tight (did I say "TIGHT"?)... really tight... into the extruded opening on the filter. It's not coming out! No room, too much other stuff. After trimming a small rubber tab on the stock intake tube, the OEM clamp fit nicely to hold the tube onto the 4" transition pipe. Hasn't budged in nearly 5K miles.

I used an Amsoil 4510 filter. It cost around $75, but they are great filters that flow a lot of air, and can be cleaned. They are a dry filter, and not oiled. Install was easy. The 4510 has a 4.5" flange. I took a piece of 4"-3" PVC reducer and put a piece of 4" PVC pipe inside of it. I painted it to match the truck with Krylon Fusion plastic paint. I removed the lid and top part of the stock air box. The small end of the reducer (it is 4" o.d.) went inside the intake tube. The other end with the 4" PVC (4.5" o.d.) in it was what the filter clamped on to. Was able to attach the filter minder in the PVC. All said and done, it cost less than $100.

I got ym 6637 delivered to the house for <$30. My 4" exhaust pipe was scrap from a local shop and cost nothing. Therefore, my complete install was a few pennies shy of $30 total.
