2 screws behind the wheel to take the pad off. once you have the pad off, you will need a steering wheel puller.
this sounds like one of those days where you need to call a friend that knows auto mechanics, and owes you a favor.

there are a couple of screws on the back side of the steering wheel that hold the the front cover on remove the cover and you should see how it comes apart, I do believe you will need a puller to seperate it after you take the nut off though. Fairly straight foward though. Just a thought though you make want to inspect the ignition switch and connecting rods before you tear the column all apart, I would take the two bolts the hold the column drop it down and see if it is binding up or anything.

Thanks for all the advice. I am being deployed on monday to get rid of a coast guard ship so i am going to put this project on hold till April. I was hoping for a simple solution. I did find a steering wheel puller at our auto hobbie shop on base so I am just going to pull it all apart and give it all a once over. I will repost when I get back with results. Thanks again to all that chimed in.
