I have a 99 Winnebago with a V10.I wanted to buy ten new plugs for it.I have been having trouble finding a set.I have tried Auto Zone,NAPA,Car Quest to no avail.BTW I am looking in the Tampa area.I finally called a Ford dealer and he said the plug that I was asking for (Motorcraft AWSF-22E has been replaced by another plug under a new part number. He did not specify the new number, only that they are $6.95 each. When he told me the price,I think I went into sticker shock and it slipped my mind to ask for the new part number.I have seen on the net where the Motorcraft AWSF-22E was about $3.00 ea.If anyone knows the replacement spark plug,I would greatly appreciate it.Also as to where I can buy them.Thanx
Thanks for getting back to me.The only concern would be the difference in the amount of thread before the sealing gasket.I think the plug on the left is the proper plug with the old number. The one on the right is probably for the 3 valve V10.Hopefully we can get this sorted out.I may have to go to the dealer and specify my application.Thats the number that is in my owners manual.
The correct curret part # is AGSF22WMF4 sold in 4 packs only this latest plug has full threads even though you only have 3-4 threads in head and also has a better coating to resist corrosion, blow out holes with air after removing coils and use a light application of anti-sieze and torque to 16 ft pounds only if you have a calibrated torque wrench
Don't worry about the threads on the plug - it's the plating on the metal of the plug that makes the diff. Monsta posted the right plug, which is AGSF22WM.
On Motorcraft.com, it defines the plug as:
Suppressor Spark Plug
PLATINUM - NICKEL PLATED SHELL .054 GAP
for the AGSF22WM which is for my 2002 V-10 Excursion.
Then I tried to find a newer V-10 spark plug....For a 2006 F250 V-10, the plug is this one:
SP421 S
Suppressor Spark Plug
PLATINUM FINEWIRE - .045 GAP
Thanks Art for posting that picture for me, hopefully I'll have enough posts soon to be privileged with posting attachments.
Anyway these were a couple of failed plugs I pulled from my '05 Mustang. The V-10 3v uses this same style of plug. These plugs obviously will not fit anything but a 3 valve head. The collar below the tapered part needs to have anti-seize applied to it. There have been several cases when that lower part of the plug will break off during removal, and stay lodged in the head. Ford makes a special tool, that works quite well at removing the broken part if a guy should be so unfortunate to have one of these style of plugs break off.
Plugs on the 3v motor fail quite easily, any bad gas, or additive in the gas can foul them instantly. They should be changed more often, just to avoid having one break off.
The failure shown the picture is extremely odd, and at Autolites request I actually sent these back to them to have inspected.
The thread count on these plugs is also quite different from your standard variations, so a special adapter is required if you ever want to do a compression or leak-down test on a 3V headed motor.
oh yeah................one other thing... they are very expensive. a set of 8 of these for my 4.6 were $178.00 CDN of course.
WOULD THE AMOUNT OF THREADS CHANGE THE Torque SPEC? THE CHILTON'S BOOK SAYS 84 LBS THROUGH 168 LBS I'VE SEEN TWO POSTS, ONE SAYS 132 LBS AND ANOTHER SAYS 16 LBS. WHICH IS IT? AGSF22WM NEW PART NUMBER AWSF22E OLD PART NUMBER (MOTOR CRAFT PLUGS)
