Trash bag hanger?

Trash bag hanger?
What is that "thing" patching a hole in the dash just below the ash tray/cup holder? It would appear that some "option" plugs in there. I pulled it off and there's lots of space hiding behind, so it would seem that something goes there other than that stupid trash bag hanger.
BTW this is an '02 V10 Limited 2WD "X".

Here is the deal-
From beginning of production to Febuary 2000, all of the Excursions had a flip out ashray located under the cupholder. Seeing as you have a 2000 and you have no idea what the heck we are talking about, I assume you have an ashtray there.
All models after 2/00 have no ashtray, and instead have a fitted dash plastic panel to fit the opening. The panel has a oddball hook formed into the plastic right in the middle of the panel. Ford says it is a trash hook to hold small disposable automotive trash bags. It is ugly, and about useless. Ford actually has a TSB out on this one that states that the driver had to reach too far to get to the ashtray, and it made it dangerous to drive and smoke. so they dumped it. I personally think it was probably a reaction to a junk lawsuit.
I have a 2005, and I could not stand the look of the thing. I orderd the parts and installed a brand new ashtray and back from a 2000 pre-02/00. Figured it had to be something stupid. No one would put that there on purpose...it looks like an afterthought, and it is!!!
Suprised no one has come up with some aftermarket gizmo to put in there.

What does it look like without the ashtray. Mine has an ashtray. I bought my truck in I think Spet 99. It is an 00. Any pics. I actually hang a bag someitmes on my ashtray. lol

Ash Tray Part #'s
Today I received the ash tray housing and ash tray receptacle for my X. I had a 99 F250SD/SC and I missed the ashtray (coin holder).
So I ordered:
F81Z*25048B26*AA - SOP HOUSING (LIST 40.38) (PAYED 29.08)
F81Z*2504810*AAA - SOP RECEPTACLE (LIST 41.32) (PAYED 29.75)
My 2005 X has a "medium Pebble" interior dash... and although the color listed in the catalog was a 99 color "prairie tan" it is a very, very close match.
I'm very close to having my X the way I want it. Pictures soon... Harley Headlights arrive tomorrow!)
