I got a 07 SCAB FX2 stock still with the 5.4 reading the threads here it has come to my attention that these trucks are down right slow. I mean I do not know what I expected when I bought it, but coming from driving a Mustang 5.0 (which I still have) and this truck it is like comparing a bicycle to a motorcycle.
I mean I do love my truck I'll be with it for the next 10 years or so hopefully unless I win the lottery, but anyway on the freeway I can not get more than 95 MPH out of her. When I step on it hard at crusing speed say 70 the tranny drops down to the next lower gear as it should, but then it holds it there it seems like and does not let it gain any speed pass 95. It feels like it is missing, but it is a new truck and I believe there is a limiter or governor of some type in the engine to prevent excessive speed. Am I correct in my assumptions?
It pisses me off the get next to a another truck especially foreign and I have to suck it up because I have nothing for them. So I preserve my dignity and let them go. It does **** me off big time though. Guess I'll be swallowing my pride for quite a few years. I do love my truck it is just slow as hell.
there is a speed limiter/governor at I believe it is 98 mph. Most aftermarket performance chips will get rid of the limit and also give you some more performance. Do you go over 95 on a regular basis?
I have a 07 F150 XLT 4x4 and i hit 100 on the speedo but after that she lost alot of RPMs these are not the NASCAR Craftsmans truck series trucks they are normal pick-ups. Trucks used to haul and tow, not to win street races, even though if properly set up it can. For a stock truck that weighs a little over 6,000lbs with a 5.4L V8 she is fast!

No not on a regualr basis, but I do make it a point, when I get a new car and after a few months I have to see what the max top end is. What is the purpose of having say 140 or 120 on the speedo, if you have never at least tested it to see how fast the vehicle could go. Might sound stupid I agree, but it's like having a corvette or mustang or porcshe and never having got into the accelerator. I'd be willing to bet that most guys here feel similiar.
Sarge, you keep trying to compare to a Mustang, Corvette and other high power to weight ratio cars. Can't do it!
I run a blown 5L but never compare to my truck. There not even close.
It's all in your head that's trying to do this.

Of course you are absolutely correct. As I said this is my first truck. I'll be alright though.
Yeah think about man a mustang with a 5.0L they are a lot lighter and mustangs are built for speed man not a F150 that weighs how much if you really wanna little more get up and go most people get the edge or somesort of programmer cold air intake and exhaust there is a governor
They have been around for a while even my 93 has one
I put the Egde Programer and dual exhaust on my Screw and it really woke it up. This summer I will probally ditch the 3.55 gears for some 4.30's and then it should have all the gonads that you want in a big truck.
I'm the same way. The kid in me always has to see what my new vehicle is capable of. There is an RPM limiter and top speed limiter. I used Hypertech programmer in mine. It's been a year or so since I ran it up after raised the top speed, but I think I got it past 110 MPR. I have a leveling kit on the front end (not good for high speed) It looked like the wind was trying to rip the hood off. That's why used to put pins in the hood back in the day. If you have to go fast, do it in a car.
Funny, I never thought of testing the speed limits of my truck. In fact it never occurred to me until I read this thread. Now, a Mustang, that's a different story. But then, if I had a Mustang it probably wouldn't occur to me to test its' limits on towing capacity, so I guess it's all relative. Drive what you dig, but drive it like it's meant to be driven.
Don't worry you'll get used to the difference between your mustang and the truck, heck in fact just go out and hook a trailer to the stang and you'll get used to it real fast.

After I bought mine I waited 2000 miles to get used to it. They come de-tuned, the transmission does grudual shifts not sharp, the timming is not advanced, Ford does this. After 2000 miles, I SCT tuned, ran true duals with magna flows, and CAI. That made huge improvements. That is all you need to make the truck very competive.
Like the earlier posted stated "these are not NASCAR Craftman Trucks.
