When I was circle track racing, we would do a crankcase vent similar to this. When we hooked it into the exhuast we would put a air diverter valve(remenber the old days of smog controls and air pumps) in line. This would act as a one way valve. It would allow vaccum to be drawn on the tube but no back flow. I'll be doing mine as soon as I install my 5" exhaust
... Here is what I did.... Insert hose in pipe and exhaust was slightly clouded, take hose out and it was clear. Repeat again and again and results were the same. Conclusion? There is suction even at idle with a 4 in exhaust.
Yep. That's why I wrapped up my comments with something about "real world installations and experience" is sometimes a much simpler approach.
Excellent confirmation regarding the induction of a vacuum in the exhaust. I had seen your setup months ago, but never knew about the "in and out" repeated trial that you jsut described. I'm more convinced than ever now that if/when I get to the point of enlarging my exhaust, I'm going to have my CCV routed in a simlar fashion as yours. Thanks for the details.

Yes but that valve also offers more resistance to flow from the crankcase to the exhaust. I did it at idle and if I saw it suck then, you bet it will suck at WOT.
