I recently replaced the spark plugs in my 5.4 2001 expedition. I used Bosch plugs. It now shows a lean condition on both banks. I clear the codes but they come back. I find no air leaks. Could it be the plugs causing this?
Not likely your plugs, if it is running lean start by troubleshooting your fuel management system. 02 sensor, fuel filter, injectors, fuel pressure, etc. Good Luck!
Plugs could be a problem I replaced mine on my 4.6(1979 F150) with bosch and it ran very lean with a small miss. So I went back and replaced them with autolight plugs ran perfect after that. good luck.

Spark plugs won't cause lean codes. Misfires and crappy running from the Bosches, yeah, but not lean codes.
Stick with the suggestion re: vacuum leak. You probably knocked something loose or missed a hose connection while doing the plug swap.

Sorry for the mix up on Lean codes.Because when I swaped my 302 over to the new 4.6(281) AODE I had a problem with the Engine Running crappy so then I removed the bosch platinum plugs and installed autolights problem solved.

I re-checked for loose hoses and leaks. Found none. When I changed the plugs I cleaned the throttle body with B-12. Could that have messed up the O2 sensors?
What is the code exactly? If both banks are leak, I would look for a vac leak. Especially the elbow fitting at the back of the of the air intake. The pipe runs from the rear of the intake to the pcv valve. And a word of advice, I would change your plugs to autolite or motorcraft brand. Don't take a chance with the boush plugs, I lost an engine because of them. Chris
It is a lean code on both banks. I got to checking and there is no PVC valve in the valve cover on the passenger side. This is an 01' 5.4, shouldn't there be one?
I did find the PVC valve. I must have knocked it loose changing all those plugs. It was hidden under all the other hoses on that side. This should fix my lean code. Thanks for the help.
