i just put a 1 ton rearend in my truck and i dont have a speedometer, i was wondering if there was an afternarket one i could use because i have no where for a speedo cable on my trans, transfer case, or rearend, i did a lil research on the gps ones but im not sure any ideas would be great
problem is the pcm uses that info from the axle for more than the speedo, if you have cruise control that's not going to work either. and if you have an elec. shift auto tranny that will also be affected by the computer not knowing how fast the truck is moving. there's supposedly a speed sensor you can buy that hooks up to the driveshaft to read the speed. you can probably do a search on here where it was talked about just a week ago or so. what kind of truck do you have, the 3/4 and 1 tons from 92-98 should have same sensor in the axle i would think.
are you still running original motor??? if not you can do it any way you want, gut the instrument cluster and fab up a custom one with cutouts for the gauges you want to have. what transfer case do you have?? if it's the 13-56 that should of come in truck you can find one from a 91 or earlier model with that tcase and it will have the mechanical speedo. you'll need the tailhousing piece and the gear and retaining pin off it, it will transfer to your tcase. if you still run the injected motor then i would look into the aftermarket kit that attaches to the driveshaft to read vehicle speed, i don't know who makes it, but it was talked about on here a while back, you could do a search on here or do a search on the internet, don't know the cost. only other option i know is a gps.
