My name is David Conwill. I'm from Whitehall, MI and currently going to school in Lansing, MI. I'm 24 years old, married and have a baby on the way. I basically grew up in a '79 F250 (and a Fiesta, but we won't talk about that). Until recently, my father still used the '79 (or "The Blue Truck" as it was known) to plow snow on our old farm. Well, he finally broke down and bought a 2002 F250 Super Duty diesel and now the Blue Truck sits idle. I've been eyeing it, as well as the '74 F250 behind the barn ("The Red Truck"). Both are 4WD and still have a lot of life left in them. They both run like tops (351M and 360 FE respectively). Both could use their granny gear 4-speeds rebuilt as well as complete overhauls of the brake systems. The Red Truck has better sheetmetal (road salt, argh). I and my brother would like to rebuild one or both for use as drivers and I'm here to listen and learn.
Well, life kinda got in the way of that plan. It's been so long I didn't even realize I was a member here until I tried to sign up again. Three kids and a degree later, I'm back and looking for a '73 to '79 2WD F-100 to bomb around in this fall...
Welcome back, Dave. It's gonna be hard finding a clean dentside pickup in Michigan; I bought a '78 F100 shortbed flareside brand new when I was 24 years old so I've got a soft spot in my heart for those. Best of luck finding one.
It has indeed been quite a while. Like I said, life got in the way. I got (and remain) heavily into Ford Falcons. That’s why I need a truck. My driver has been partially cannibalized to facilitate my resto project, leaving me on a bicycle this summer. As the weather turns, that’s no longer going to be an option.
There are a few clean trucks on Craigslist in the $4000-up range, but I’m looking for a solid beater. Preferably in the sub-$2500 range. Most of my money is going into those Falcons!
Cleaned up with freshly painted steelies, knobby tires, and a good tune up. I’ve also been following the lowering thread lately, but it seems like a quite a bit of investment to do it right.
