Shuts off at idle and while driving

Hi everyone. My friends truck has recently started dieing while driving and also while at idle. It will start right back up no problem. Most of the time the CEL comes on first then a little while later the truck dies. My first thought was the cam sensor but my experience with these trucks is limited. If any one has any other ideas or things to check before installing a new cam sensor that would be great. -kellen

Read that code and it will tell you whats going on. It does sound like a common cps sensor problem.

I agree with foreman and your initial assessment, just understand you may not throw a code.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunatley I don't have a scan tool. Ive been reading up on different models trying to decide what to buy that will go fairly in depth. What do you all use?
