351 help!!!!

I heard that 351w and 302 just don't die how true is this? I know that with enough NOS anything can blow. But I have seen many 302 with over 200,000 miles and I am wondering if 351 can last just as long. I am talking stock motors with normally usage, not drag cars.

Is any one good with the Dura spark system used in the 1984 351 H.O. bronco motor. Starter won't even begin to turn but I know that the starter is good and the starter relay is good. What else could it be. The battery is also 6 months old. I replaced the battery termials and even tried to jump across the starter relay and still nothing.
HELP

thanks,
deshet

the "W" stands for windsor and you have one based on the year of your truck. Unless a motor swap was done. You can find out using your VIN number.

I have an '88 w/ the 5.8L. I had a similar problem I suppose. One day it would not start. I was able to jump cross the relay and it worked. But then, even that would not do. The mechanic said that the tranny safety switch died (the one that lets you start only on park/neutral) He said he replaced it and now works like a charm.:-staun

351 help!!!!

They can die, they just take their time. I've got a 302 in my 82 that was abused by the previous owner (no air filter, bad carb) it now has at least 2 cylinders with no compression! It still runs fairly well, thankfully my 351w is about ready to go in!

Was that safety switch hard to replace and did it cost a lot of money. Also does a 1982 have that same switch. Is it an internal or external transmission part? Do I have to drop the tranny? Also does anyone know if the fuel injection off a automatic 5.0 will work on a 351w? The 5.0 is out of a 88 grand marquis
thanks,

351 help!!!!

RE Safety switch - I am sitting here now while my mechanic replaces the "neutral safety switch" - I belive this is the same one you speak of. Hence my current search on this sight. I had my 89 Bronco EB just not start after a short trip up street. Had power to the windows...my buddy jumped it at the selenoid (sp) and it ran fine - we replaced that but then it still no go. Took to garage for a computer test which suggesetd it might be wiring, but then they figured it to be the neutral safety switch after putting in a new ignition and learning that not the prob.

After reviewing posts here I learned that a replacement of the selenoid (which we did on our own) and this switch should solve my problem. Now I sit and wait to see what this cost will be....

Just chiming in!

Thanks

Neutral safety switch is an external part - no need to drop the tranny. There is "some" adjustment in it according to my Chiltons. Mine is out of adjustment right now in my 89XLT - it doen't start every once in a while. Move the shift lever all the way to the left in PARK and it starts right up. One way to check it is if your reverse lights don't work - it doesnt catch right in the switch. They'll work when you go throught reverse, but won't stay on.
