Wrecking Yard Find
Had to share my good fortune. Heard about a local yard that might have some 73-79 trucks. Went out yesterday to take a look. They pull it or you pull it. Had the Fords in one cluster - about 15 trucks total. Ended up with:
Pristine left front fender
Grille shell with inserts (one small ding on shell, came off a 76 so it matches my 77)
Chrome front bumper with pad and bumper guards
I pulled them myself, with some help from a friend who rode along. All for $140. I was even more fortunate in that I got the only good ones of the lot. A pretty good day.....

Hey Bigun--do they have many of our trucks in that yard? I haven't found any around here that do--most have sent them to the crushers. There are some 80's trucks and vans and I've gotten some parts from them (interior hood release cable for one) but the only 73-79s I've seen belonged to the yard (wreckers and such). I'd be interested in knowing about any good yards in central and south TN and north AL.

yea we got a few ...about 4 or 5 ...and they have good bodys on them ... its called J&J auto salvage ...there number is 731-989-3840 ...but they dont know much about them ... im better off to tell you were they are if u come up here ... we might try to go together or something so i can show u ..or u can tell me wat yer lookin for and i can go look and see if they got it or if its any good. ...but its a big yard

I don't need anything specific right now (except for an intermittent wiper setup from an 80's model, but I can find that around here). I just like to know for when I will need something cause I haven't found ANY around here yet.

Only thing I'm really missing right now is a windshield (mine's busted all up), a windshield washer reservior, and a jack. Was planning on just putting in a new windshield after I get it painted (hopefully very soon) but if there was a really good piece of glass in a junkyard I would consider scavenging it. I got a reservior and pump off an 80's model but haven't adapted it to fit yet and probably wouldn't if I could find a correct one.

Wish I could find some used wheels like yours but haven't really been looking around yet. Wanted to wait until after the paint job to lay out the coin for new wheels and tires.

yeah, that's what I figured. thanks, anyway. If I fixed the rust well enough shouldn't need any body parts for a while unless I bang it into something so it's the small stuff i'm trying to fill in now. I've got my eye on a late 80s rear slider but haven't been by to take it out yet. Nothing wrong with the one I've got except it appears to be an aftermarket and doesn't fit as nicely as I'd like it to.
