I found out way too late about the TSB on the stock torque converter. Mine rattles VERY loudly, and has for a couple of years, yet even with my higher mileage it still locks and unlocks when its supposed to and I have never had any tranny probs.
Now that it is starting to get warm again I find myself with my windows down more listening to PSD music, and hearing the rattle at a light is like a sour note in my symphony.
any suggestions other than dropping big $$$ on a BTS( can't justify that until the original bites the dust)
Ford has a friction adative that sometimes helps..
It didn't work on mine, but it was cheap to try...$150.00
I priced out the tourque converters and found that you could buy a Ford one and installation arond $1,000.00. Much cheaper than going with a BTS or other brand..
Also I wouldn't wait till that blows up, because you may be replacing the tranny as well at that point.. They don't just stop working they disintegrate..
I tossed it around for a while the traded it in on a 06 with manual tranny
BTS uses a Precision Industries torque converter. A very nice unit, to be sure. However, with a trans in the condition like yours, I wouldn't put a fancy one in it. In fact, BTS never recommended more than a valve body in my trans. Reason being that when the trans breaks, it will dump stuff into your nice new TC.
When my tranny bit the dust, it was 100 miles away from home. So, the only question is where and when will the trans break. Will you be able to get a trans put in at the time of your choosing or will it be at a random time where you are unable to get things done easily and cheaply.
what year span does that TSB affect? I would like to know what the symptoms are so that I can alert the wife (she drives the truck as her Daily Driver) and so that I can listen to it when I drive it.
The only TSB I found on torquer conerters was the dust plug titled TSB TRANSMISSION - 4R100/E4OD - TORQUE CONVERTER ACCESS EXTERNAL DUST PLUG MAY BECOME DISLODGED. If this is it then here is the applicability
