please can someone help me before all the rattles send me to the looney house. my truck will drive you crazt driving down the road with all the rattling in the front end. i dont know what it is, ive changed the control arm bushings, the axle pivot bushing, and i checked the king pins and there is no slack in them. somebody told me it could be the brake pads rattling, so i bought the anti rattle clips for them. well no luck, could it be the calipers themselves making all the noise. i did notice that when you put your foot on the brakes it stops. do they make any kind of anti rattle clips for the calipers? or what else can it be.
Time for new caliper bolt/pins they get old and let your calipers rattle. Replace them with a new set each side and bingo all quiet. I like my Fords but like the brilliant Twin Traction Beam this set up is also WTF!
thanks winger235 for the info. im going to take a look at them when i get a chance and see what you are talking about with the bolt and pins. i dont have a lot of knowledge about fords, im more familiar with the chevrolet brakes.
Do you have the anti-rattle spring in place? If you can see the image, it's the odd-shaped wire on the right. Here's the image URL in case it doesn't show up here. Worn out pins (below the spring) also cause the caliper to rattle as winger235 mentioned.
i put the anti rattle springs on and put 4 new shocks on at the same time, but still makes alot of rattling. the only thing that i didnt change is the pins.
