Half the metal is out after my visit with the doctor. She did some digging in my corina to get what she could out with the whirly extractor. I have to go back tomorrow to see if they can get more out. The thing that hurts the most is the eye muscles from trying to focus. At first I thought I had burned my retina from welding so much the last couple of days. Luckily that didn't happen, but I am still light sensitive. It is starting to feel better several hours after my visit thankfully.
Mark I got metal in my eye also. Of course I walked around with it in my eye for a few days till it got good and rusty. They dug it out with a mini dremel. left a permenant dent in my cornia. When I do eye charts now I have to focus offcenter and read it with periferal vision. The two days after the digging were the most painful then it got better. Hope you recover quickly, Rich.
Ok the metal is completely out as of yesterday. Today I did some more cutting and welding to the roof. I can say I am getting better the more I do this. I only had to grind a little bit instead of alot as compared to several days ago. The sides of the roof are starting to look like they should. They're far from perfect but they aren't filled with holes or wavy. I started to use that stuff I hate so much to smooth over and blend the passenger side. The really good thing I can stick a magnet to it so it isn't too thick. Once I get done with the whole job I'll post a picture so I can get some honest opinions on how it turned out. Oh FYI make sure to cover your glass so the slag doesn't melt it like I did to my vent window. I now have little tiny pits in the glass on the passenger side. Thankfully I noticed it before I got too far forward or my windshield would be pitted as well.

Reason: spelling
Mark I learned that the hard way too. Give it a little time and the slag that made those pits will rust and then you'll have pretty brown speckled glass. Lucky for you it sounds like you caught your error. My drivers window, vent and about 1/2 my windshield are pitted and "speckled". Live and learn, Rich. Glad to hear the eyes are OK.
Harley, welcome to the metal in the eye club. My recovery took just a little longer than a couple days. Only real damage ended up being to my softball batting average.
After I got the metal in my eye I went to the doc and heres a little recap- see if it sounds familiar. Keep in mind I was wearing a glasses and a welding mask.
Go to the doctors office:
Receptionist "how can we help"
Me "Metal in my eye"
Receptionist "you should wear safety glasses"
Me "Thanks"
Nurse "how can we help"
Me "Metal in my eye"
Nurse "you should wear safety glasses"
Me "Thanks"
Doctor "So youve got some metal in your eye"
Me "Yes"
Doctor "You should wear safety glasses, I cant help you, heres a specialist"
Me "Thanks"
Go to a specialist-
Receptionist "how can we help"
Me "Metal in my eye"
Receptionist "you should wear safety glasses"
Me "Thanks"
Nurse "how can we help"
Me "Metal in my eye"
Nurse "you should wear safety glasses"
Me "Thanks"
Doctor "So whats the problem"
Me "Metal in my eye"
Doctor "Happens all the time, let grind a way with the dremel and send you on your way, you know you really should wear safety glasses"
Me "Got Ya, Thanks"
All Kidding aside the eyes are nothing joke around about, hope yours heal up.
I know what you mean but I bypassed everything else and went straight to the specialist. Being in the military and the fact that this is the second time, other eye last time, that this has happened. She was kind of surprised to see me the second trip when I told her again I was wearing all my protective equipement to include long sleeves on a 90 plus day. I just had to laugh when she asked me about the safety glasses. I handed them over to her as she was midsentence trying to give me the lecture on how everyone tells her they wear them. I explained it wasn't flung into my eye but rather had fallen off the welding mask headband when I pushed the helmet down. I felt it fall in my eye but my uncontrolable urge to close my eye caused it to pierce the cornia. My last visit 2 days ago confirmed that the cornia had healed and I now am the proud owner of another battle scar just outside of my focus from my love for working on my truck. I told her that you sometimes have to sacrifice body parts for the truck god to be satisfied.
