Nice site, have a question regaurding the 300 6cyl in my 66 f100. Want to keep it a 6, and was curious how new I can go in terms of the 6cyl. Wasn't sure if there are any bell housing pattern changes to prevent using a later model 6. I would like to use the orig 4spd too. The reason I'm looking to change is the 300 sounds like a howitzer.
Thanks in advance
Yeah I know its a ford site with Novalicious as a sign on. But I'm heavily weighted to Ford

Any I6 will work as they all have the small block bolt patteren. If you go EFI (and I would If I could) be sure to get the electonics and harrneses from the doner truck.
IF you swap motors, you will need to retain your oil pan and dipstick out of the block. The newer ones are different and the stick is in the pan. I put an 1980 in my 1965 15 years ago and I swaped all of my 65 external parts to the 1980 engine, but I only needed to change the pan and dipstick.

Last year for the 300 Six in Fseries pickups any way is 1996. Ford fuel injected them in 1987 so any thing from that point forward you need the computer and related parts, best to get whole donor truck if you want factory fuel injection.

Any idea what year they changed to the dipstick in the pan?
My 66 has a later year motor, and I do have the pan mount dipstick, which was a real PITA when I needed to replace the pan, because there are very few aftermarket options.

All you need is the dipstick from the block of an older engine. My 1980 block still had the hole, I just had to tap the plug out with a long punch and then put the dipstick from the 65 in. I do not know if they ever changed the block casting to eliminate the boss in the block for the dipstick. The dipstick boss is on the drivers side, easy to see.
